Earth Love | The Northern Lights

Nature's very own lights show.

I'm adding a new page to this blog. Earth Love will be a virtual repository of all things I find jaw-droppingly amazing/ beautiful/awe-inspiring/fascinating about this planet.

Today,on its debut, I feature The Northern Lights.

Also known as Aurora Borealis, this magnificent lights show display is caused by the collision of energetic charged particles with atoms in the high altitude atmosphere in the North Pole. These charged particles originate in the magnetosphere and solar wind (a continuous flow of ions from the sun) and are attracted by the Earth's magnetic field.*

How awesome is that! I dream of seeing this "live" someday.

According to The Huffington Post, these are the best 10 places to view the Aurora Borealis :

1. Norway
2. Sweden
3. Finland
4. Iceland
5. Alaska
6. Canada
7. Greenland
8. Scotland
9. Russia
10. Denmark

The Northern Lights are visible between late November to March. I will book a flight to one of these places. A 33rd birthday trip, perhaps? :)
